Young Thug is an artist whose sound is completely based on feeling. His lyrics may not always be fully understandable or even fully coherent, but the vibes of his songs are always crystal clear. Here are six different Young Thug songs that are perfect for six different moods.
1.“Picacho”
“Picacho,” off of Young Thug’s break out 2013 mixtape 1017 Thug, is what victory sounds like. — It is the perfect anthem to celebrate a triumph of any scale. Thug proudly describes the shininess of his diamonds using plenty of absurd imagery in lines like “My diamonds, they say Pikachu, they gon' wink at you.” The chants in the background and Young Thug’s expressive and confident delivery evoke pure jubilation with every listen.
2. “Digits”
On “Digits,” Young Thug stresses the importance of the grind and determination to accomplish your goals regardless of the possible risks. Thug channels his inner motivational speaker as he passionately points out the fact that “hustlers don't stop, they keep goin'.” Throw this on if you’re ever feeling like quitting in the face of adversity and need some extra motivation to break through your slump.
3.“Bad Bad Bad”
“Bad Bad Bad” is one of the standout tracks off of Young Thug’s most recent album So Much Fun, and it matches nicely with that album title. Thug sounds confident and content as he raps about enjoying the luxurious fruits of his labor alongside his newly successful protege Lil Baby over a simple piano chord progression. Play this song if you’re looking to have a good time or need some carefree energy injected into your day.
4. “Me or Us”
“Me or Us” off of Beautiful Thugger Girls is the song to play if you are experiencing some nostalgic or bittersweet feelings. This song is an example of Young Thug’s versatility, delving into much more understated and vulnerable territory than he typically works in. He swaps his usual bouncy synth melodies and rattling hi-hats for a simple acoustic guitar, giving himself plenty of room to get candid about his relationship, softly questioning where his partner’s loyalty truly lies. The result is easily one of the most raw and emotionally tender Young Thug songs to date.
5. “Harambe”
“Harambe” is one of Young Thug’s strangest tracks to date and is fuelled by feelings of raw rage and unbridled passion about a relationship that is driving him mad. Thug uses some bizarre vocal inflections on this track and pained sounds as he squeals, growls, and wheezes over the beat. This song is perfect for any time you are in a somewhat crazed state and feeling many strong, conflicting emotions.
6. “Sin”
“Sin” is a good option if you’re feeling like breaking some rules or getting into some trouble. The beat is woozy and nocturnal, and Young Thug and Jaden Smith both sound cold-blooded as they trade bars back and forth. Thug makes it clear that he does what he pleases with lines such as “Ayy, they told me don't spend, I went got the racks and I did it again.” On the Rvn was marketed while there was a warrant out for Young Thug’s arrest, giving these lines added meaning.
Whether you are feeling on top of the world or on the brink of a mental breakdown, there is unquestionably a Young Thug track that will suit your listening needs. These six songs only scratch the surface of the emotional range and complexity in Young Thug’s deep discography.
