2020 is the year of “WAP.” Two absolute queens in their own right, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion teamed up for the insane collaboration that shook the world and properly lodged itself into the collective cultural consciousness of all Gen Z-ers. Soon after its release earlier this year, the bad-b-tch anthem found its way to TikTok, inspiring multiple popular dances and a countless number of insane mashups. Meg’s verse has been paired with everything from “Phantom of the Opera” to the Home Depot theme song, making it arguably one of the most versatile and viral beats to ever exist. Bless your eardrums with these 10 mashups, and thank me later.
Tame Impala — “The (WAP) I Know the Better”
Admittedly, we do have some Tame Impala bias — but this one is just too good. The unmistakable bassline of “Less I Know the Better” pairs so perfectly with “WAP,” it feels like the two songs are a match made in indie-rap heaven. Tame Impala’s psychedelic-rock influences meld surprisingly easily with Cardi’s pop-rap style, illustrating the intersectionality of the beats and how truly adaptable “WAP” is across all musical genres. No one has ever thought Cardi B could make an indie hit, but after this mashup, everyone should definitely think twice.
Ciara — “A WAP Body Party”
At the first post-COVID house party you better believe anyone on aux WILL be blasting this banger on repeat — don’t get it twisted. It’s the perfect mix between a chill dance beat and absolute banger, you just can’t help but bop to this “WAP.” Layering Megan Thee Stallion’s verse over Ciara’s reverb-heavy R&B track produces the most immaculate chill vibes with an upbeat attitude, making it the perfect song to fit almost any mood.
Queen — “Bohemian WAPsody”
There should be little doubt that Freddie Mercury would 1000%, absolutely be a “WAP” stan — which is exactly what makes this mashup so incredible. King Freddie’s unmatched beat paired with Megan Thee Stallion’s verse is the perfect pairing. The key change to make Cardi’s culturally-resetting ‘macaroni in a pot’ bar fit Bohemian Rhapsody’s unmistakeable piano riff makes this mashup hit even harder. We are definitely thanking the lucky TikTok stars for being inspired to come up with this mix.
Britney Spears — “This WAP is Toxic”
Does this one even need to be explained? The perfect mix of Y2K realness and pop, this is the kind of song you definitely want to blast with your girlfriends during late night drives or 3 a.m. dance parties. Megan’s verse comes in right at the beginning of the song’s bridge, perfectly fitting in, as if it’s been in Britney’s track the whole time. Sans industrial fan and skimpy rhinestone mesh ensemble, this remix will make you wish you were wearing a Juicy Phat tracksuit while you’re throwing it back.
Hozier — “WAP Me to Church”
You wouldn’t think Hozier’s emo-vibey hit would fit so well with a bop like “WAP,” but this mashup is honestly fire. The electric-guitar-heavy beat of “Take Me to Church” brings an edge to “WAP” that gives depth to Meg’s otherwise fairly-shallow lyricism, making the verse one that hits somewhere deep in your soul. It’s definitely worth a listen (or like … 36 in a row).
Lemonade Mouth — “Determinate this WAP”
“Determinate” lowkey has one of the hardest raps in all of human history, but layering Megan Thee Stallion’s verse over the Disney song’s beat makes it even better. The tempo of “Determinate” perfectly matches Megan’s verse, making the stripped down-”WAP” lyrics flow easily over “Determinate”’s instrumental track. This mashup makes absolutely all of our Disney Channel Original Movie dreams come true in the best way possible.
“Kahoot WAPpery”
We already know that the Kahoot beat goes HARD. But Kahoot and “WAP”? Literally unmatched. The creator of this mashup sped up the Kahoot instrumental and added a drum beat to better fit the flow of Megan’s verse, and the result is a scarily good track. I just know some cool history teacher out there is queuing this one up for their next class Kahoot sesh.
Lana Del Rey — “Summertime WAPness”
Anything with Lana will make you feel like you’ve got your red dress on tonight, and this mashup is on a whole ‘nother level. Meg’s verse was slowed down in this one to better fit Lana’s lulling instrumentals, and the resulting mashup combines the two perfectly. This one has me endlessly fantasizing about a Lana Del Rey and Cardi B collaboration … I mean, a girl can dream right?
Taylor Swift — “You Belong With My WAP”
Hearing old Taylor Swift and Cardi B on the same track definitely feels like a fever dream, but it somehow works. The instrumental guitar of Swift’s country-pop hit layers easily over Cardi’s “bucket and a mop,” making this mashup the empowering anthem that 2020 most definitely needs. Once again, this track shows its incredible versatility time and time again, making the song’s tempo easily pairable with just about any hit, displaying that country-pop-rap can most definitely work, despite all logical odds.
“The WAP Depot”
Whoever made the Home Depot theme song is an undoubted musical genius (Mozart’s been real quiet). Few beats go harder than this one, and it goes up to another level of banger when mixed with “WAP.” As @smith_jordan said: “Something no one asked for but we all needed,” and we couldn't agree more. The intro to Megan’s verse builds the perfect amount of suspense for the track, and the synths of the hardware store’s theme elevates the Houston native’s vocals by adding a unique instrumental edge. I can’t help but imagine a Cardi B and Home Depot collab when I hear this one — maybe she’ll venture into the bucket and mop markets after listening to this mashup.
This list is by no means an extensive collection of the massive black hole that is Tik Tok WAP remixes, so take a look for yourself for even more quality mashups and pleasantly surprising pairings. Who knows, maybe you’ll find one that’s even more delicious than some fresh macaroni in a pot.
Dinner has been served, but who would say no to some dessert?
