There’s security in having a lucky number. Some people have a specific number they see everywhere, or one that holds certain importance to them. Others just like the way their favorite number sounds. Whichever one you are, here’s five songs to deepen your connection with your lucky number.

“The 1” — Taylor Swift

The number one is considered a leader in numerology; it represents independence and confidence. If you tend to see ones everywhere, or it's just always been your favorite number, it means that you’re strong-willed and ambitious. Consider Taylor Swift's “The 1” if this is you. Her lyrics connect to the numerology of the number one: although reminiscing on what could have been, she sings about a new phase of life that requires her independence. “I guess you never know never know / And it's another day waking up alone.” The strong-willed nature of this number also comes into play in the lyrics, “And if you wanted me, you really should've showed / And if you never bleed, you're never gonna grow / And it's alright now.” Despite feeling rejected, Swift continues to look towards her personal growth.

“22 (OVER S∞∞N)” — Bon Iver

Numerology considers two to be a sensitive and intuitive number. If this number has always resonated with you, it’s because you seek unification and harmony but don’t always stick up for yourself. Bon Iver sings the mantra, “It might be over soon,” in his song “22 (OVER S∞∞N).” This song embraces the meaning of the number two, both in its quiet perception of emotions and encouragement to speak up even if it’s not received (“And then I draw an ear on you / So I can speak into the silence”). The infinity symbol — which appears twice in the song’s title — means timelessness and boundless potential. This, combined with number two’s numerology, shows the duality of his mantra. The bad or the good could be over soon, but the new possibilities are endless.

“4:44” — Jay-Z

Four is a dependable number in numerology — it is strong and loyal. Many people also see repeating fours as one of the most common “angel numbers,” a number intended to bring you comfort or reveal important messages that vary by person. “4:44” by Jay-Z definitely explores the theme of loyalty, whether that be something he is striving for, or something he knows he hasn’t been able to give to his partner, reflected in the lyrics “And I apologize 'cause at your best you are love / And because I fall short of what I say I'm all about.” On the other hand, the rapper also reflects the number four’s numerology by acknowledging his partner’s strength and loyalty in contrast to his own downfalls.

“7” - Catfish and the Bottlemen

The number seven is perceptive and introspective. It resonates with those who question the world around them, always analyzing situations and their environment. In “7,” Catfish and the Bottlemen’s lead singer Van McCann is painfully aware of the failure of his relationship. He sings, “And I'd beg you, but you know I'm never home / And I'd love you, but I need another year alone.” This song embodies the numerology of seven by showing that sometimes what you know to be true isn’t what you really desire. By looking back into how his own feelings affected the outcome of his relationship, McCann shows how his introspection perseveres through time.

Nine, the last single digit, represents support and compassion. It also holds the meaning of the ending of a cycle, giving promise of a new beginning. Lilli Trifilio sings about feeling good in a new relationship despite expecting the end of the romance. The lyrics “Even when we fade eventually to nothing / You will always be my favorite form of loving” truly show the meaning of the number nine in considering the cyclical nature of relationships, and the kindness with which we can exit one.

The numbers one through nine are the most important in numerology. Each has its own sets of characteristics and its own personality. Five is curious and social, always seeking new experiences — which makes it a perfect number of songs to explore. Looking into the numerology of your playlists, or even paying more attention to the numbers you see most often, can reveal new meanings that may resonate with you. Who knows — you just might find your next favorite song, or new favorite number.
